Sports awards 2012

On the 29th of March the annual Thailand sports awards for 2012 were presented at the Miracle grand hotel in Bangkok.

The show featured the usual presentation of the Sportswriters of Thailand boxer of the year award and this years event made history, with the first time ever the famous trophy donated by His Majesty the King of Thailand being shared by two boxers.

The judging panel couldn’t decide between Yodwaicha Por Boonsit and Saengmanee Sor Tienpho so it was shared between them. Both fighters are prodigious talents winning thew award at 16 years of age and it cappedĀ  remarkable years for them, with Saengmanee winning 4 stadium titles at four different weights inside 10 months and also winning the fighter of the year awards for Lumpini and Ratchadamnern and the Siamsport Siamkela award for best young up and coming boxer. Yodwicha beat several big name established stars on route to the award, taking the Lumpini Super-featherweight title in the process and winning the Siamsport Siamkela award for boxer of the year.

Also honoured at the event was Saenchai PKSaenchaimuaythai, given an award for spreading the art of Muaythai worldwide.
